Wins, big or small, celebrate them all.

I want to take you back to the 16 year old you. You’ve been working side jobs for months, saving everything you can. You finally got that small piece of plastic laying in your hand that while to most seems meaningless, to you is the definition of freedom. You empty out your bank account, palms sweaty with every dollar you’ve saved gripped tightly in your fingers, you hand it over to the one person who stands between you, and that new 4 wheels that will finally give you the gateway to the open road.

Do you remember this day? Your first car. Nothing up to this point has felt more exciting than finally being able to get out and go where YOU want to go when You want to get there. Now let’s fast forward. You're older, working your first real job. That car that was once your favorite ticket to freedom is now the beater that you dread getting into every single day. You’ve met with the bank, you got approved for exactly what you needed. Now you’re ready to by your first brand new car. Nothing up to this point has felt more exciting than sitting down in the leather seats no one else has sat in, starting the car seeing that single digit milage, and knowing this is yours, and has only been yours.

Morale of these situations, all wins are the same. The excitement for getting that first car, is the same excitement you get when you have the brand new car that cost 10x. This same story can be reflected into all areas of our lives. So many times we fall into the this thing isn’t good enough, or this situation isn’t enough. When in reality, just 10 years ago its all we had ever dreamed of.

Keep things in perspective, always chase something greater, but don’t forget to celebrate your wins along the way. Big or small, every win in life is a WIN.

On the same tune of celebrating, this week 2 of our dogs celebrated birthdays. Nala (yellow lab) and Oliver (mastiff). If you’re a fellow dog owner you know how quickly time can seemingly fly by in their lives. Im sure you’ve all scrolled across a reel, talking about how we have full lives, but we are all they have. It’s one of those sappy reels I try to avoid so it doesn’t ruin my day feeling guilty having to do such unfathomable things, like go to work. But there’s a small lesson in here that I think relates to the main story from today. My dogs, and im sure yours as well, celebrate EVERYTHING. I mean going outside and going to the bathroom for them is a party. I think there’s a gem to be taken away from the simplicity in the way they live their lives. Remembering that life is short, and even the little things are truly worth celebrating.

I love this quote by Ryan Holiday. If you don’t follow him, you should. Momentum isn’t a feeling that’s eventually going to come up and swift kick you in the rear end. You have to generate this feeling yourself. I know, bummer right? Momentum is a lot like compounding interest. You have to start, then keep pushing that energy forward, and eventually you’ll be moving 100mph and not even know how you got there.
