When You’re Being Pulled in Every Direction...
Ever feel like your brain is in 15 places at once?
That’s me this week.
There’s a mile-long to-do list. A dozen tasks all needing attention. And somehow, despite working all day, it still feels like there’s more to do.
If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. Even the highest achievers in the world hit moments where they feel stretched thin. The difference? They know how to push through without burning out.
So, this week’s newsletter is about what to do when you’re in a slump—when life pulls you in every direction and focus feels impossible.
Let’s dive in. 👇
Even the Best Get Overwhelmed
If you think high performers always have it together, think again.
🔹 Steve Jobs—At one point, he was running both Apple and Pixar simultaneously. His solution? Ruthlessly eliminating distractions and only focusing on what truly mattered.
🔹 Oprah Winfrey—She once admitted feeling stretched so thin between TV, business ventures, and philanthropy that she had to learn to say “No” more often.
🔹 Elon Musk—He’s been public about his 100-hour work weeks and how exhaustion has hit him hard. His strategy? Time-blockingevery single minute of his day to stay locked in.
Even the best get overwhelmed. What separates them is how they manage it.
The 3-Step Reset Framework
When I feel like I’m being pulled in too many directions, I follow this 3-step reset to get back on track:
✅ 1. Brain Dump Everything
Take 5 minutes to write down everything swirling in your head. Tasks, deadlines, worries—get it all on paper.
Why? Because keeping it all in your head creates mental clutter. Once it’s written down, it’s easier to see what actually matters.
🚀 Pro Tip: Richard Branson swears by writing things down in notebooks to stay organized and focused.
✅ 2. Identify the 3 Most Important Things
Once you’ve dumped everything out, prioritize.
Ask yourself:
• What’s truly urgent vs. just nice to do?
• What tasks actually move the needle?
Circle the 3 most important things you need to accomplish today.
🚀 Pro Tip: Warren Buffett follows the “5/25 Rule”—he writes down 25 goals, circles the top 5, and ignores the rest. Focus is a superpower.
✅ 3. Time-Block Like a CEO
The best way to get through a chaotic week? Own your time.
Take those 3 important tasks and block time on your calendar to work on them—no distractions, no excuses.
• 90-minute deep work sprints (like Jeff Bezos does for big decisions).
• Short, focused bursts (like Elon Musk’s 5-minute rule).
• Blocking out distractions (like Cal Newport’s “Deep Work” strategy).
🚀 Pro Tip: Bill Gates schedules “Think Weeks” where he isolates himself just to focus—proof that intentional time is the key to success.
The Bottom Line
Feeling overwhelmed doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means you’re busy. And busy is normal.
What’s not normal is letting that feeling paralyze you.
So if this week has been pulling you in every direction, try this:
1️⃣ Brain dump everything.
2️⃣ Identify your top 3 priorities.
3️⃣ Time-block your focus.
It won’t eliminate the chaos, but it’ll help you take control of it.
