Staying Consistent: Your Blueprint to beat the curveball of life.

Life throws curveballs - It happens. It’s not a matter of if, but when. You can choose to be prepared and have a tool to act on them, or you can choose to be blindsided.

The people who achieve their goals—the ones who really make it—they have a tool to fall back on.

This week, I’m sharing a simple framework I use to help me maintain consistency even when outside factors try to derail you. It’s practical, actionable, and built to help you push forward—no matter the conditions

The Consistency Blueprint

When life gets unpredictable, follow these 5 steps to stay on track:

1️⃣ Control What You Can

You can’t control the weather, the economy, or the random chaos of life.

But you can control:

 Your attitude

 Your effort

 How you respond to setbacks

🔑 Pro Tip: Focus on small wins. If you’re sick or busy, shift your goal to something achievable for the day. Missed a workout? Do 10 minutes of stretching. Small wins add up.

Example: James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, recommends “habit scaling”—shrinking your habit down to its simplest form when life gets tough. Can’t run a mile? Walk for 5 minutes. Progress > perfection.

2️⃣ Build Systems, Not Willpower

Willpower is fleeting. Systems are reliable.

Create a structure that supports your goals no matter how you’re feeling.

For example:

 Set reminders for key tasks.

Prep your environment (e.g., lay out your gym clothes the night before).

Automate where possible (e.g., meal prepping or scheduling work blocks).

🔑 Pro Tip: A system eliminates decision fatigue, making consistency the path of least resistance.

Example: Michael Phelps followed the exact same pre-race routine before every competition—visualizing his swim, eating the same meals, even listening to the same playlist. His system kept him consistent, no matter how he felt.

3️⃣ Adapt, Don’t Quit

Life will happen. Plans will fail.

The key is learning to pivot without abandoning your goals.

Ask yourself:

What’s the minimum I can do to stay on track?

How can I adjust my plan to fit current circumstances?

🔑 Pro Tip: Treat consistency as flexible, not rigid. Missed 3 days of your goal? Adjust your timeline or double up where possible.

Example: When Serena Williams faced injuries, she didn’t quit training—she adapted her workouts to focus on recovery and mental preparation. Adaptation is part of the process.

4️⃣ Measure Progress, Not Perfection

Consistency isn’t about never missing a day—it’s about showing up more often than not.

Track your wins and celebrate progress, no matter how small. Seeing evidence of improvement builds momentum and keeps you motivated.

🔑 Pro Tip: Use a habit tracker or journal to log daily actions. Focus on progress over time, not daily perfection.

Example: Jerry Seinfeld used his famous “Don’t Break the Chain” method to stay consistent with writing jokes. The visual proof of progress kept him motivated to continue—even when he didn’t feel like it.

5️⃣ Commit to the Long Game

Consistency compounds. It’s not about the results you see today or tomorrow—it’s about the massive impact over months or years.

Remind yourself why you started and stay focused on the bigger picture.

🔑 Pro Tip: Write down your “why” and revisit it when motivation fades.

Example: Warren Buffett became one of the world’s richest people not by making flashy moves, but by staying consistent with disciplined investing for decades. He played the long game.

Putting It Into Practice

Here’s how I’ve been applying this framework recently:

Last week, I got sick, and it threw me off my routine. But instead of abandoning my goals, I adapted. I scaled down my workouts, focused on smaller wins, and reminded myself: progress beats perfection.

Now I’m back on track, feeling stronger, and more committed than ever to playing the long game.

Your Turn

This week, take these steps and apply them to your own goals.

Ask yourself:

What’s one system I can build to make staying consistent easier?

How will I adapt when life throws me a curveball?

Am I measuring progress or getting stuck on perfection?

Let’s keep pushing forward—no matter what comes our way.

Remember: Consistency isn’t about never falling off. It’s about never staying off.

Until next week!

Don’t forget, it really means the world to me if you can share the newsletter! Writing these is one of my favorite parts of the week, and building the audience is the best way you can repay if you get any value from this.
